R1S MPGe Questions
Which R1S is the most efficient?
The 2025 and 2026 R1S Dual Standard (22in) has the top EPA rating at 85 MPGe combined (92 city, 77 highway).
What's the range of the 2026 R1S?
The most efficient 2026 R1S Dual Standard (22in) is rated at 85 MPGe combined, which works out to 39.9 kWh per 100 miles. Its EPA range is 270 miles. Range across 2026 versions runs from 258 to 410 miles.
What does MPGe mean?
MPGe stands for miles per gallon equivalent. The EPA counts 33.7 kWh of electricity as one gallon of gasoline, so a rating of 85 MPGe means the 2026 R1S Dual Standard (22in) covers 85 miles on 33.7 kWh. kWh per 100 miles is the easier number for working out charging costs.
Why doesn't my R1S match the EPA numbers?
EPA ratings come from standardized tests so every EV is measured the same way. Cold weather, heater and AC use, highway speed, tire pressure and cargo all change how far a R1S goes on a charge. The ratings are best for comparing one model against another.

Where These Numbers Come From
Every figure on this page comes from the U.S. EPA fuel economy dataset on fueleconomy.gov, pulled together by Cedrick Reese. The file lists 94 ratings for the Rivian R1S from 2022 to 2027. Each row in the table links to the matching EPA vehicle record, so you can check any figure against the source. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, the EPA's miles-per-gallon equivalent, and the table also shows their official range. The page is rebuilt whenever the EPA publishes an updated file, which picks up new model years and any rating corrections. The cost calculator uses your electricity rate you enter rather than a national average, so the result fits where you live.
Ratings on this page come from the EPA file downloaded on October 1, 2026.
