ES MPG Questions

Which ES year gets the best gas mileage?

The 2026 ES 350h holds the top EPA rating at 46 MPG combined (48 city, 44 highway).

What's the best gas mileage from a non-hybrid ES?

The 2021 to 2024 ES 250 AWD with the 2.5L 4-cylinder and all-wheel drive is rated at 28 MPG combined (25 city, 34 highway).

Is there still a gas-only ES?

Not in the EPA ratings. The last gas-only ES the EPA rated is from 2025. Every 2026 ES configuration in the EPA data is a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric model.

Does all-wheel drive hurt ES fuel economy?

A little. On the 2026 ES hybrid, the best front-wheel drive version is rated at 46 MPG combined and the best all-wheel drive version at 44 MPG.

How efficient is the electric ES?

The most efficient 2026 ES 350e (19 inch Wheels) is rated at 127 MPGe combined, which works out to 27 kWh per 100 miles. Its EPA range is 307 miles. Range across 2026 versions runs from 272 to 307 miles.

Why doesn't my ES match the EPA numbers?

EPA ratings come from standardized lab tests so every car is measured the same way. Your results depend on speed, climate, idling, cargo, tire pressure and upkeep. The ratings are best for comparing one car against another. To track your own numbers, try the MPG calculator.

Where These Numbers Come From

This page was built by Cedrick Reese from the U.S. EPA fuel economy dataset on fueleconomy.gov, which holds 71 ratings for the Lexus ES from 1990 to 2026. Each row in the table links to the matching EPA vehicle record, so you can check any figure against the source. Ratings from before 2008 use the EPA's revised estimates, which put older vehicles on the same scale as newer ones. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, the EPA's miles-per-gallon equivalent, and the table also shows their official range. The page is rebuilt whenever the EPA publishes an updated file, which picks up new model years and any rating corrections. The cost calculator uses the gas or electricity price you enter rather than a national average, so the result fits where you live.

Ratings on this page come from the EPA file downloaded on October 1, 2026.
