Electric and hydrogen versions are rated in MPGe, so compare them with each other rather than with the MPG figures.
Charger MPG Over the Years
Each bar shows the range of combined MPG across every Charger configuration the EPA rated that year, from the thirstiest version to the most efficient. Hover or tap a year to see the numbers. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, so they're left out of the chart and listed in the table instead.
Years When Charger Fuel Economy Changed
Most years look a lot like the one before. These are the years where the EPA numbers moved in a way that matters if you're shopping for a used Charger.
- 2007: All-wheel drive becomes available. The best all-wheel drive version is rated at 18 MPG combined.
- 2024: An electric Charger joins the lineup at 98 MPGe combined, with up to 308 miles of EPA range.
- 2027: Every Charger the EPA rated for this year is electric. Combined ratings run from 75 to 86 MPGe.
How the Charger Compares
The EPA rated 16 large cars for 2026. The best Charger version, at 20 MPG combined, ranks 13th of 16. Combined ratings in the class run from 14 to 51 MPG, with a median of 23. Plug-in hybrids and electric models are ranked separately.
| Rank | Model | Combined |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hyundai Sonata | 51 MPG |
| 2 | Honda Accord | 48 MPG |
| 2 | Honda Civic | 48 MPG |
| 4 | Acura Integra | 32 MPG |
| 5 | Kia K4 | 30 MPG |
| 13 | Dodge Charger | 20 MPG |
What Does a Charger Cost to Fuel or Charge?
Pick a Charger, then enter your gas price (or electricity rate for an electric version) and how much you drive. The math uses the EPA city and highway ratings, weighted by how much of your driving happens in each.
Charger MPG Questions
Which Charger year gets the best gas mileage?
The 1984 and 1986 Charger holds the top EPA rating at 30 MPG combined (26 city, 35 highway). Among 2026 models, the Charger R/T AWD is rated at 20 MPG combined.
Is there still a gas-only Charger?
Yes. The 2026 Charger lineup includes 2 gas-only versions, rated 19 to 20 MPG combined.
Does all-wheel drive hurt Charger fuel economy?
A little. On the 2023 Charger, the best rear-wheel drive version is rated at 23 MPG combined and the best all-wheel drive version at 21 MPG.
How efficient is the electric Charger?
The most efficient 2026 Charger Daytona R/T AWD 255/45R20 is rated at 95 MPGe combined, which works out to 35.6 kWh per 100 miles. Its EPA range is 295 miles. Range across 2026 versions runs from 223 to 295 miles.
Why doesn't my Charger match the EPA numbers?
EPA ratings come from standardized lab tests so every car is measured the same way. Your results depend on speed, climate, idling, cargo, tire pressure and upkeep. The ratings are best for comparing one car against another. To track your own numbers, try the MPG calculator.

Where These Numbers Come From
Cedrick Reese built this page from the EPA fuel economy file published on fueleconomy.gov. It has 169 ratings for the Charger from 1984 to 2027, and every one of them is shown in the table. Each row in the table links to the matching EPA vehicle record, so you can check any figure against the source. Ratings from before 2008 use the EPA's revised estimates, which put older vehicles on the same scale as newer ones. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, the EPA's miles-per-gallon equivalent, and the table also shows their official range. When the EPA posts an updated file with new model years or corrected ratings, this page is rebuilt from it. The cost calculator uses the gas or electricity price you enter rather than a national average, so the result fits where you live.
Ratings on this page come from the EPA file downloaded on October 1, 2026.
