Electric and hydrogen versions are rated in MPGe, so compare them with each other rather than with the MPG figures.
Equinox MPG Over the Years
Each bar shows the range of combined MPG across every Equinox configuration the EPA rated that year, from the thirstiest version to the most efficient. Hover or tap a year to see the numbers. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, so they're left out of the chart and listed in the table instead.
Years When Equinox Fuel Economy Changed
Most years look a lot like the one before. These are the years where the EPA numbers moved in a way that matters if you're shopping for a used Equinox.
- 2010: The top combined rating rises to 26 MPG, up from 20 MPG the year before.
- 2018: The top combined rating rises to 32 MPG, up from 25 MPG the year before.
- 2024: An electric Equinox joins the lineup at 108 MPGe combined, with up to 319 miles of EPA range.
How the Equinox Compares
The EPA rated 69 small SUVs for 2026. The best Equinox version, at 27 MPG combined, ties for 30th with 8 other models of 69. Combined ratings in the class run from 20 to 53 MPG, with a median of 27. Plug-in hybrids and electric models are ranked separately.
| Rank | Model | Combined |

What Does a Equinox Cost to Fuel or Charge?
Pick a Equinox, then enter your gas price (or electricity rate for an electric version) and how much you drive. The math uses the EPA city and highway ratings, weighted by how much of your driving happens in each.
Equinox MPG Questions
Which Equinox year gets the best gas mileage?
The 2018 and 2019 Equinox AWD holds the top EPA rating at 32 MPG combined (28 city, 38 highway). Among 2026 models, the Equinox FWD is rated at 27 MPG combined.
Is there still a gas-only Equinox?
Yes. The 2026 Equinox lineup includes 2 gas-only versions, rated 26 to 27 MPG combined.
Does all-wheel drive hurt Equinox fuel economy?
A little. On the 2027 Equinox, the best front-wheel drive version is rated at 27 MPG combined and the best all-wheel drive version at 26 MPG.
How efficient is the electric Equinox?
The most efficient 2026 Equinox EV FWD is rated at 108 MPGe combined, which works out to 31.1 kWh per 100 miles. Its EPA range is 319 miles. Range across 2026 versions runs from 288 to 319 miles.
Why doesn't my Equinox match the EPA numbers?
EPA ratings come from standardized lab tests. Your results depend on speed, climate, idling, passengers and cargo, roof racks, tire pressure and upkeep. The ratings are best for comparing one vehicle against another. To track your own numbers, try the MPG calculator.

Where These Numbers Come From
This page was built by Cedrick Reese from the U.S. EPA fuel economy dataset on fueleconomy.gov, which holds 106 ratings for the Chevrolet Equinox from 2005 to 2027. Each row in the table links to the matching EPA vehicle record, so you can check any figure against the source. Ratings from before 2008 use the EPA's revised estimates, which put older vehicles on the same scale as newer ones. Electric versions are rated in MPGe, the EPA's miles-per-gallon equivalent, and the table also shows their official range. When the EPA posts an updated file with new model years or corrected ratings, this page is rebuilt from it. The cost calculator uses the gas or electricity price you enter rather than a national average, so the result fits where you live.
Ratings on this page come from the EPA file downloaded on October 1, 2026.
